The Resplendent Farming Apothecary ch 9 - Cooking Wasn't All That Difficult (3)

Mrs. Liu did not want to offend the patriarch or his family so she could do nothing but to pout after hearing what she said. She did, however, grumbled to herself, “That was quite chatty for someone who had no energy to speak.”

Mrs. Liu dashed over and snatched the basket over. Her eyes locked onto the preserved pork  like a hungry wolf eyed it’s prey. She counted the slices of the pork a few times, and took each biscuit in her hand to gauge their weight one by one. Then, staring viciously at Gu Ye, she growled, “You lowly girl, did you already stole some food and ate them back at home?”

“I didn’t steal and I didn’t eat. Others may not know, but wouldn’t you?” If it was still the original owner, she would have been terrified by Mrs. Liu’s vicious look. Yet Gu Ye acted as though she didn’t even noticed and merely answered her with a question in an even tone.

The Resplendent Farming Apothecary ch 8 - Cooking Wasn't All That Difficult (2)

Gu Ye’s proud smile faded away. She recalled the moment in her past life as she was devoured by wild beasts. She recalled the familiar voice calling out to her, and the despondency and hopelessness on that handsome face as she took her last look at it. So it turned out that the icy-cold face was capable of showing emotions after all!

Mei mei,” Gu Ming’s voice interrupted her thoughts. “You have not recovered yet, why don’t you go and lay back down? I can take care of the chores…. Oh, I see that you have already finished preparing lunch. Are you tired? How are you feeling?”

Gu Ye turned and smiled at him, “Ge, I am not that fragile, okay? Even Dr. Wu said that I should get up from time to time and move around a little. It’s better for me that way. Come, try my cooking!” She pleaded.

Gu Ming opened his mouth for the piece of eggplant that was fed to him. He chewed it carefully and his eyes brightened. He was not frugal with his words of praises, “Your cooking is much better than that of Mrs. Liu. Her cooking tastes like pig food comparing to yours!” Ever since that incident, Gu Ming had refused to refer to Mrs. Liu as “mom” anymore.

Gu Ye giggled and blinked at him playfully, “Ge, you are calling us pigs too when you say that!”
Gu Ming paused for a second and started laughing with his sister. After this illness, his sister’s personality had changed noticeably. She was much more outgoing and playful than before. She was so timid in the past and turned pale with just about any kind of noises. She’d shiver and want to find a place to hide. He must become stronger still so he could protect his sister and not let Mrs. Liu has her ways.

Gu Ming helped her sister to place the meals inside the basket and carried it toward the fields. Gu Ye followed slowly behind him. Gu Ye was helping with the basket at the beginning, but her brother had adamantly declined her help. Looking at the brother walking in front of him and slightly struggling with carrying the meals, Gu Ye was very touched. It was so nice to have a brother who cared for her!

“Xiao Ye, bringing lunch to your dad?”

“Xiao Ye, you feeling better? You can walk around now?”

“Xiao Ye Zi, you are too skinny. You need to eat more. If your mom won’t feed you, you come get some from my place. Just think of that as a long. Don’t ruin your body when you are so young and have to suffer the consequences from it.”

The busy villagers from the fields on both sides of the path all greeted the brother and sister passionately when they saw them. Gu Ye, who was used to the calculated kind of relationships didn’t know how to react to the simple enthusiasm of the villagers. She just smiled and nodded at them. Since the original owner had always been a timid girl, none of the villagers noticed her change.

“Oh you dang Gu Ming! Said you needed to use the bathroom and you slacked off and went home? How could you be so lazy? All you ever think about was to slack off! I am telling you, there will be no dinner for you until you finish harvesting these two acres of sorghum!” Mrs. Liu was enraged when she saw Gu Ming carrying the basket for Gu Ye from a far. She jumped way up and her spittle went way far.

“That from the household of 7th, you don’t seem all that tired to me if you still have the energy to jump up and down. It must be nice to be young. When you are my age, I can barely talk after working all morning!” said the third grandma of the village, who had been displeased by the ways Mrs. Liu has been treating the two kids for a long time.

Third grandma’s husband was a sibling of the patriarch. When he was young he was quite a character and always won all the quarrels in the village. He had finally mellowed down some now that he had aged.

The Resplendent Farming Apothecary ch 7 - Cooking Wasn't All That Difficult (1)

The fall season painted all the mountains a layer of gold. The setting sun making the fall leaves even more colorful than they already were. Inside the small courtyard, the ground were covered in gold color.

A screeching noise broke the silence in the small yard, “Stop lying in bed like a corpse! Just because you had lied around, did nothing, and ate well for a few days do not make you Miss High and Mighty! There are so much to do around the house, so stop with the lazing around in bed! Are you dead yet? If you are not dead then get up on your ass and start cooking!”

“Yuteng, can we really allow others into this dimension?” Cheng Xiao Xiao didn’t have the answer to this question, so she had no choice but to ask the little fairy in front of her.

“Young mistress, I actually don’t know the answer to that. I have never tried it before. Should we find a test subject?”

“Ugh, no rush. When we family settled some, we will go and seek helpers from the outside. Anyone that can pass our evaluation we’ll groom them in here. The mystical qi is more dense in here, it will be much easier to groom them here!”

“Okay! We will go and have some fun then!”

TWQQF ch 143 - Taught Every One A Tough Lesson; Dimension Leveled Up (16)

“Young mistress, as for the yang side of the water, these are boiling water. It’s temperature reaches that equivalent to the core of the earth and is very frightening. A regular person coming in contact with it will be turned into ashes immediately. As for the ones with high level of cultivation, they wouldn’t dare touch it either, because even though they won’t lose their lives, they will still be severely burned!”

“Dang, then this is even more powerful!”

Even Cheng Xiao Xiao felt that she had cold sweats dripping down of her. This lake was way too powerful.

“Young mistress, one thing I need to point out. You can’t just utilize this just yet until you have broke though to martial emperor or martial monarch level. Otherwise, only I could barely use a bit of it, and even so, not too comfortably.”

TWQQF ch 142 - Taught Every One A Tough Lesson; Dimension Leveled Up (15)

Ever since Cheng Xiao Xiao had showed up, Gu Junxian had been staring at her with a death look. Nobody there could made out the meaning behind that bizarre look. But, as everybody was well aware of his relationship with the Cheng’s, nobody said a word about it either.

After she made sure nobody else wanted to purchase water bottles, Cheng Xiao Xiao turned around and left without looking at anyone, as though they were strangers to her.

After she had left the valley, Cheng Xiao Xiao entered the dimension right away, “Well, Yuteng, did the dimension level up? By how many levels?”

“Young mistress, we are not at level 33. We  have received a lot of mystical stones, the dimension is much richer in mystical qi now.”

TWQQF ch 141 - Taught Every One A Tough Lesson; Dimension Leveled Up (14)

Shaking all sorts of items inside his dimension pouch, Innkeeper Zhu politely bid the associate dean farewell. He didn’t want any unexpected incidents.

Liu Tianshan and the others did not forget to collect the lunch boxes to bring with them. He believed that what just happened would be a common occurrence in the future.

After they have depart, everybody was full. The ones who only had 1 lunch box wish they’ve had more. The ones that had 2 patted their belly in a satisfying manner. The meal was expensive, but it was certainly delicious.

Mu Qingtong seemed to be in much better mood after he ate. Smacking his lips, he said, “How come there’s only food but no water? A bottle of mystical water would be perfect right about now!”

TWQQF ch 140 - Taught Every One A Tough Lesson; Dimension Leveled Up (13)

“You! You are such a jackass!”

Everybody was so angry that they could die while spitting out blood, but there was nothing they could do. They were on the Cheng’s turf!

Gu Junxian, who was leaning up against a big tree, watched coldly as all the event unfolded. His handsome face twisted and his hands turned into fist involuntarily. In his eyes were a sense of disgrace.

Nobody noticed him before, but with the reminder from little Yuteng, Cheng Xiao Xiao saw his expression and his look, and couldn’t help but to laugh coldly.

TWQQF ch 139 - Taught Every One A Tough Lesson; Dimension Leveled Up (12)

“Nice?” Cheng Xiao Xiao smiled, she didn’t think she was being nice!

Mrs. Cheng happened to overhear the conversation between the two of them and scolded lightly, “Zheng Yuan, stop being such a kid and stop with the nonsense!”

“Mom, that’s not nonsense! They were never nice people to begin with, why do we have to be nice to them?” asked Cheng Zheng Yuan, feeling unjust.

“You are such a child. You shouldn’t talk like that. When you go back into the mountains, remember to bring more water with you. It’s not easy to find water in the mountains!”

“No problem!” replied Innkeeper Zhu, “But, Miss Cheng. Now that the Cheng’s is expanding, your number of servants are really on the low end, what are your plans?”

“About this….”

Cheng Xiao Xiao shook her head, she looked at the busy bodies at the foothill from afar and said lightly, “No matter what the issues are, I think we will have to take them one step at a time. Honestly, I am a little bit leery about buying servants from the outside. Otherwise we wouldn’t have taken so many villagers’ kids in.”

“That much food? Are you feeding them?”

Mrs. Cheng looked at her daughter, surprised. Cheng Xiao Xiao nodded and smiled, “Of course. After all, they are logging for us, right?”

“Of course. Xiao Xiao you are right. They are helping us out, of course we should feed them good food. I will have them prepare the food right away!”

The Resplendent Farming Apothecary ch 6 - The Bizarre Red Lotus (3)

All the ruckus outside has no effect on the brother and sister sitting inside. Gu Ming knew that his sister’s stomach was really weak right now and wouldn’t be able to handle the hard biscuit. So he broke them into fingernail size pieces and soak the in the porridge until they were soften before he fed them to her.

Gu Ye looked at the dark and messy food and, even though she was miserably from being hungry, they still didn’t drum up her appetite. Under her brother’s hopeful look, she forced herself to take a bite. Ugh! They were equally disgusting tasting as the nutritious drinks that she received on assignments in her previous life.  She couldn’t take more than a few bites.

The Resplendent Farming Apothecary ch 5 - The Bizarre Red Lotus (2)

Gu Ming stopped, stared straight at her and said, “I thought this was my little sister’s share. You were the one who’s rationing dad’s food, not me! My little sister is sick and she needs food.” Soon as he finished talked he didn’t care that Mrs. Gu was jumping up and down shouting and inside the house.

Mrs. Gu was shouting and trying to reach out to grab him before Gu Qiao cut short her creative verbal ability, “Haven’t we embarrassed ourselves enough? If ninth brother next door overheard you words will be spread into the village that we abuse our kids again. How much could a small girl like her eat? Just add some more water and a fistful of rice in the future when you cook. All you need to do is to make sure she doesn’t die from starvation.”

The Resplendent Farming Apothecary ch 4 - The Bizarre Red Lotus (1)

Mei mei, drink the soup quickly. Before Da Zhuang and Xiao Zhaung saw it and take it from you!” Da Zhaung was their stepbrother that Mrs. Gu brought with when she married into the family, where as Xiao Zhuang was their 3-year-old half-brother.

Gu Ye couldn’t fire the hunger that felt like fire burning in her stomach any longer so she took a few sips from her brother’s hands but that was all she could take. Having been starved for a prolonged amount of time, her stomach had already deteriorated along with her other organs. She was so weak she could barely breathe. This body was the living testimony of the saying “at the end of the rope”.

TWQQF ch 136 - Taught Every One A Tough Lesson; Dimension Leveled Up (9)

“Oh!” Liu Tianshan was shocked. Dumbfounded, he asked, “Shi mei, what do you need all these for?”

“Of course I have my reasons. Go quickly. Remember, you only have two-hour time. You must rush back within two hours, okay?”

“Okay, I will leave right away!”

Liu Tianshan had no idea why should needed these items, but as far as he was concerned, he only need to follow her requests. He need not worry about anything else.

“Yes, Qingtong understood!”

As they were talking, they also entered deep into the mountain range of Mount Daan. Under the directions of the villagers and Cheng Zheng Yuan, they began that day’s work.

After returning from the dimension, Cheng Xiao Xiao walked outside of the house and saw one more person still sitting in the courtyard and her expression turned cold right away.

Cheng Biyuan and Mrs. Cheng saw their precious daughter and stopped their chattering. They looked like they wanted to say something to her, but didn’t know how to say it.

The Resplendent Farming Apothecary ch 3 - Being Dumped in the Mountain (3)

Gu Ming straightened his body as best he could, his lips conveyed his determination. What was most important to him right now was his sister. If push come to shave… push come to shove, he could live in a cave with his little sister and he’d hunt and gather vegetables to sustain her.

The patriarch had an idea of the matters inside Gu Qiao’s house. But it was difficult to interfere with what was going on behind closed door. As long as he was informed of directly, he was letting it slide. But today, a live was almost taken, he’d have to stand up and say something as the patriarch.

“Mrs. Gu, you have gone too far with the incident today! Okay, you are all a family, there will be no grudges. All the air is cleared now! Old seven, why don’t you give your kids the words today to comfort them and make them feel better?” Gu Qiao was ranked number seven in the village.

Gu Ming pointed at a mean looking woman with a bony face and thin lips and said through gritted teeth, “When mom was still alive, mei mei was healthy and outgoing. What about now? Why do you think mei mei looks the way she does right now? She been starved this entire time!”

The clan member of the Gu’s who came to help looked at the skinny and obviously malnourished Gu Ye and could not bear the sight but turned away.

“Mrs. Gu won’t let mei mei join us at the table during meals, and she never saved any food for her. Mei mei was so hungry that she had to eat wild plants. On top of that she was too frightened to bring them home to cook them so she had to eat them raw. She was so young that she couldn’t tell what was or was not edible at first and regularly ate the poisonous ones, making her vomit and causing her to have diarrhea.

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to my newest series. As I have announced earlier, I am going to post a few sample chapters of 1 - 3 different books to gauge interest before committing. If you enjoy the series, please leave me some feedback and, more importantly, rate it on NovelUpdates.com. As the nay saying seem to be very quick at just clicking on "1" without leaving any explanation. For all I know they just don't like the genre and that's very demoralizing for a translator (luckily I am not the writer!).

I would very much love to hear about what you think about the books.

Thank you in advance for your valuable feedback.

It was as though a fire was burning inside her stomach, burning up all her internal organs. Her stomach felt like someone was vigorously stirring inside it with a sharp knife. So death wasn’t a relief after all, it was but merely more sufferings and tortures.

Gu Ye, fighting the starving sensation in her stomach, slowly opened up her eyes. What she saw was a forest of trees that looked like vicious monsters in the dark night, and the light from the stars that shown through their leaves.

She hadn’t have the time to try and recall how she ended up where she was. She could hear wolves howling nearby. Turning her head, she saw pairs and pairs of blue eyes sparkling ominously in the dark night.

TWQQF ch 134 - Taught Every One A Tough Lesson; Dimension Leveled Up (7)

Hi All,

I have posted the first three parts of The Resplendent Farming Apothecary. It is waiting on approval on NovelUpdate as we speak but for now you can navigate from the Table of Content.

Let me know what you think of it!

“There’s no rush. We have got to let them take a small break and recover some first. How else will they be able to carry all those logs for us otherwise, am I right?”

“Anything you say, young mistress!”

While Cheng Xiao Xiao was relaxing and chatting away inside the dimension, those from School of Divine Condor received the generous hospitality of Cheng Zheng Yuan – each of them were given one sip of mystical water before they were escorted into the mountains to chop down trees under the watchful eyes of the villagers.

Under the supervision of the associate dean Mu QIngtong, even though the students were extremely reluctant to carry out the task, they dare not complain or curse. They simply didn’t understand why the associate dean would agreement to such insulting conditions.

Not only were the students confused, even Mu Qingting, as an instructor, was baffled. He followed the associate dean closely and asked cautiously, “Associate dean, why are we staying at the Cheng’s?”

“You think you can leave?” replied the associate dean casually.

“Why can’t we? Associate dean, there might be a lot of people here at the Cheng’s, but only the Cheng’s father and daughter are strong. We need not worry about the rest. If we are to leave, they won’t be able to stop us,” said Mu Qingtong unreconciled.

“You are right, if we want to leave, of course we can. But we will never be able to step foot in Willow Village again, and never able to get our hands on any of the Cheng’s stuff. Not only your trip was wasted, my trip will be wasted too. You may not care about looking bad,  but I do. Not to mention that we won’t be able to report back that we have failed our missions!”

“Well, this….” Mu Qingtong felt so embarrassed he didn’t know what to say. He knew what the associate dean said was true, so he had no comeback.

The associate dean followed that with another question, “You had their water earlier, right? How did that make you feel?”

Thinking about the water they had just drank, Mu Qingtong was stunned and swallowed uncontrollably, “It was, indeed, mystical water, with up to 70-80% mysticalness. It was delicious indeed!”

“Hrm!” Hrmphed the associate dean. “If we didn’t stay, you think you could have tasted that? The Cheng’s also have mystical animals and fish!”

“Yes, yes, that was such a wise decision on your part, Associate Dean!” Mu Qingtong, with a happy look, finally understood the reason that the associate dean has decided to stay

Even though they were logging for the Cheng’s, to cultivators like them, it’s just a matter of manual labor. If that was all that it takes to have mystical animals, he could log for them for a whole year!

After all, even as an instructor, he might be able to have mystical meat once a year, if he was lucky. But at the Cheng’s, he could have it every day. And all he had to do is to log, why wouldn’t he be willing to?

Seeing that Mu Qingtong had been enlightened, the associate dean stroked his goatee and gloated, “Even though the brat Cheng Xiao Xiao was difficult to deal with, but keep in mind that Cheng Biyuan was also an alum of School of Divine Condor, we can also take this opportunity to strengthen our relationship with him. That ought to make it easier for us to purchase mystical animals from them in the future!”

“Yes, you are so right, Associate Dean!”

Thinking about the future, Mu Qingtong continue to brown nose the associate dean with no hesitation. After all, if they could have a good relationship with the Cheng’s, he would benefit from that as well.

For those of you who are curious, here's a sneak peak to my [potential] new project. :)

***

The thing she was most concerned about right now was whether the dimension could level up.

Little Yuteng, who was squatting on the crystal fruit tree, didn’t even bother looking up. Busying with what she had on hand, she replied, “Young mistress, there were lots of good stuff. The dimension just leveled up. We are not level 30 now!”

“What? It only went up 2 levels?”

Cheng Xiao Xiao walked over to the crystal fruit tree and saw little Yuteng burying pretty stones at the root of the tree. She couldn’t help but asked curiously, “Yuteng, what are those?”
