TWQQF ch 327 - Hope of Everyone; The Tool's Tricks (2)

Seeing his pitiful look, Cheng Xiao Xiao pouted indifferently and said, “Well, you should have avoided me when you saw me coming. It wasn’t my fault!”

She ignored the small matter at hand, pushed him aside, and continued walked forward.

“XIao XIao, where are you going now?” He had decided to follow her around all the way!

“None of your business!”

“Let me go with you!”

“Will you still follow me if I say no?”

“Of course!”

“…..”

TWQQF ch 326 - Hope of Everyone; The Tool's Tricks (1)

“Aye, Mom, Dad, you don’t need to keep asking!” Cheng Xiao Xiao’s cheeks were burning up. She pouted and said, “Just… just ignore him!”

Even though Cheng Xiao Xiao grew up in the 21st century and was no stranger to love affairs, but it was still difficult to talk about it with her parents. So she decided to just keep her mouth shut!

Having experienced that themselves, the parents could already tell from Cheng Xiao Xiao’s shy demeaner that she was indeed quite fond of Mo Xuanzun. She just wouldn’t admit to it was all.

Luckily Cheng Biyuan found this guye quite acceptable so far and Mrs. Cheng had only heard good things about him and already has a good impression even before she has met him. What remained unknown was what the guye would think should he ever found out he was so popular!

Cheng Biyuan and Mrs. Cheng exchanged a look and both saw the smile in each other’s eyes.

“Xiao Xiao, why don’t you bring him over so I can meet him too!” Mrs. Cheng was very happy that her daughter finally found someone she was interested in.

“Mom, he’s a tool! It’s better that you don’t meet him!” Cheng Xiao Xiao did not want to address her mother’s question. She was already fidgeting in her seat.

Mrs. Cheng wasn’t going to let her off the hook so easily and continued saying, “Well, I must meet him sooner or later. Xiao Xiao, since he had already announced publicly that you are a couple, that is what people think now. If you are both into each other, you must tell him and ask him to have his family pay us a visit and we will make this official.”

“Mom, what are you talking about?!” Cheng Xiao Xiao protested loudly. Her mother made her feel that she was unwanted merchandize and she just wanted to wrap her up in a nice bow tie and gift her away.

Her daughter’s reaction toward the subject displeased Mrs. Cheng, “Xiao Xiao, mom is telling you as I see it. He addressed to your father as father-in-law in front of everyone. Now he is staying at our place. If we don’t quickly finalize this betrothal, there will be too much rumors fly around about you.”

“Um, mom, just let me be. I don’t care what others have to say about me!” Cheng Xiao Xiao face was beet red and she couldn’t make eye contacts with her parents. Standing up, she announced, “Mom, Dad, I am going to go talk to Old Man Ying!”

She turned around and ran off before her parents could respond. She did not want to continue engaging in the subject that drove her insane.

Mrs. Cheng chuckled and scolded after seeing her daughter running away from the subject, “This kid, she wouldn’t even spend some time to chitchat with me!”

“XIao XIao is all grown up now. You don’t need to worry too much about her!”

Cheng Biyuan took a look at his wife and added, “You shouldn’t have said to her what you said earlier. She is a girl after all, how was she supposed to bring up that subject? You should bring it up to Mo Xuanzun when you see him. If he truly wanted to be with XIao XIao, have him mentioned that to his family. One way or another, they need to make this official.”

Ye, I know!” responded Mrs. Cheng tenderly.

Whilst the two were discussing about their daughter, there was someone else waiting in their courtyard as though he was anticipating someone’s arrival.

Shortly, he saw the one who hadn’t been gone for long returning. He was happily inside and jumped out!

As Cheng Xiao Xiao was leaving her parents’ courtyard, she was too busy cussing out another someone so she didn’t pay too much attention to her surrounding and she ran straight into someone.

“Ouch, XIao XIao, why did you slam into me?”

A familiar smell surrounded her and she immediately pushed him away. She looked at her dubiously and asked, “I thought you were the one who slammed into me?”

“What? I was standing here the entire time! You weren’t watching where you were going and slammed into me!” Mo Xuanzun pouted and made an innocent-looking face.

TWQQF ch 325 - Bribing The Family; Grilled By The Parents (10)

“Oh, XIao XIao…” Looking at the pretty girl who blushed, Mo Xuanzun was even happier than before. A bit pouty, he asked, “C’mon, let me go meet mother-in-law with you, hmmm? What do you say?”

“No!” Cheng Xiao Xiao wanted to kick him again. Suddenly she was mad from embarrassment all over again and shouted angrily at him, “Who’s your mother-in-law. You better stop that now or I won’t let you stay at my house!”

“XIao Xiao!”

“And stop following me!”

Cheng Xiao Xiao stomped her feet and warned him again before she turned around and kept on walking toward her mother’s courtyard.

Staring at her back as she walked away, Mo Xuanzun was rejoicing inside. The light in his eyes danced around and he said to himself, “So you are shy and won’t let me meet mother-in-law, but I must find a way to meet her somehow. I can not meet anyone else but I must meet mother-in-law. I wonder if I can sway her to my side easily. I must think of something…”

The one mumbling to himself started trying to come up with ways. He remembered clearly what his shi mu had told him once – if you want to marry some girl, first and foremost is to have the mother-in-law on your side, then her other family members. Once you’ve accomplished that, you are pretty much guaranteed you would get the girl.

Cheng Xiao Xiao walked into her parent’s main structure with a million different thoughts racing through her head. She felt strangely embarrassed to face her parents right now, all because of that tool!

As much as she was cussing him out inside her mind, she appeared in front of her parents.

She was slightly surprised by Cheng Biyuan’s presence. So this was how it was going to be huh? Frowning, she walked up to them and curtsied, “Mom, dad.”

“XIao XIao, sit!” said Cheng Biyuan while nodding at her.

Mrs. Cheng peeked outside and noticed that the one she wanted to meet was not there. She was a little bit disappointed, she’d really wanted to meet the man who was fond of her daughter.

Only Cheng Biyuan knew that the only reason Mo Xuanzun wasn’t there was because he was sent away by Cheng Xiao Xiao. Otherwise, he would be there for sure!

“Okay, XIao XIao, now tell us what had happened and why did young master Mo said you almost died?” Nothing else was more important than finding out what had happened to her and how the accident took place.

Knowing that she couldn’t avoid it anymore, Cheng Xiao Xiao had no choice but to recount what happened that day.

After hearing his daughter recounted the events that day, Cheng Biyuan was silent for a while before he asked, ‘XIao XIao, do you know who that was?”

“No, I don’t. I only took a quick look at him before I was struck. I gathered his cultivation level was that of an apex martial emperor or martial monarch. Nevertheless, I wasn’t able to move at all, and then I was struck.”

“What was this person? Why was he so unreasonable?” grumbled Mrs. Cheng.

Cheng Biyuan, on the other hand, knew fully well that there was no such thing as “reasons” in the world of cultivation. His daughter took the herbs that he has his eyes set on, so it wasn’t entirely inconceivable that he’d attack her. He then thought of something else, “XIao XIao, what is your relationship with young master Mo? It seemed there were more than just him saving your life, what else took place between the two of you?”

TWQQF ch 324 - Bribing The Family; Grilled By The Parents (9)

“Tsk, so frugal!” Cheng Xiao Xiao pouted in dissatisfaction. She wanted to collect the little immortal crane into her dimension and have little Yuteng clone a bunch of them so she can have a bunch scattered around the surrounding areas. She trusted that the addition with the immortal crane would truly transform Mount Wanan.

“I am not being frugal!” smiled Mo Xuanzun as he continued to explain, “Xiao He was fed my blood even before it was born; it could only be my ride. If we tried to switch it’s owner to you, both of us would receive antiphasic consequences. If an immortal crane is what Xiao Xiao wants, I will get you one that did not already have a contract!”

Resplendent Apothecary ch 90 - The Once-A-Year Herb Market (2)

“You silly goose. Do you plan on having all the medicines that you’ve made in the storage for lunch? These are medicine made from the sage apothecary branch, you think we will still have to worry about money? Darn! How did I end up with a stupid disciple like you!” The sage apothecary walked out of the medicine room with his hands behind him, seemingly in good spirit. It wasn’t very often that he had the upper hand when it came to his disciple. That was such a satisfying feeling!

“I am not stupid. Have you ever seen an idiot with photographic memory? You are just envious of my beauty and talent. Sigh…. Geniuses are always doomed to be lonely!” Gu Ye shamelessly tooted her own horn and her words made herself laugh.

She got up and walked into the storage room. Inside there were plenty of wooden shelves filled with bags and bags of herbal medicines made by her. Gu Ye separated them into different categories: some were made by her master when he was demonstrating for her, anything from the sage apothecary must be top notch, they would for sure fetch a good price; some were made by her with minor errors here and there, but their efficacies were still better than normal medicinal herbs, she should at least be able to break even on those; and then there were the successful ones that she prepared, both their presentation and efficacy could rival those from her master; hmmm, she ought to be able to make a small fortune with these.

Looking at these medicinal herbs, Gu Yu could already see piles and piles of silvers in front of her. Her big eyes sparkled like stars in the sky.

The little money-grubber couldn’t sit still any more. She ran over to her grandfather’s room immediate and, seeing that he was rubbing medicinal oil on his own leg, quickly took it over from him and obsequiously massage his leg and applied heat treatment to it. Her manner extremely solicitous.

Gu Xiao chuckled as he watched his granddaughter busied herself in front of him and thought t himself: girls were so much more attentive. Seeing that she had finished the entire treatment process but stayed behind, took a seat at the stove, and looked like she had something on her mind. He asked curiously, “Ye-er, if there’s anything you want to say, you can go ahead and say it. No need to hold back in front of me.”

“Grandpa, our storage room is filled to the brim with all the medicinal herbs….” Gu Ye hinted very subtly.

Nevertheless, Gu Xiao did not get her meaning. He pondered for a while and said, “Oh, have we ran out of room for your medicines? No problem, grandpa will make you a few more shelves. We can put them on the outside, you can stack as much as you want on them….”

“No! What I was trying to say is, let’s sell them all so we can buy more fresh herbs for me to practice,” said Gu Ye, much more straightforward this time.

But Gu Xiao misunderstood her meaning again, “Oh… so you are running out of herbs! Grandpa had been forgetful. It’s deep winter now and you won’t be able to collect more herbs from the mountains, no wonder you are running out of raw herbs. No worries, grandpa will go to town tomorrow and bring you back more of them… we have no shortage of money!”

“No, grandpa!” Gu Ye quickly stopped her grandpa from pulling out money from the cabinet, “They are herbs. They are only valuable in the hands of those who need them. We keep stashing them in the storage room they will get moistened when it rains or snows and all my hard work will go to waste.”

Gu Xiao looked down at his granddaughter’s little hands there had became coarse from practicing herb-making and nodded solemnly, “Alright, you are right. We can’t let all your work go to waste. Okay, I will go into town tomorrow and ask for a quote from Jimin Hall.”

“Grandpa, can you take me with you? I would like to check out the herbal market in town as well.” Gu Ye brought up her request. She wanted to see which kind of medicinal herbs were the best selling ones and could fetch the most dollars. It was such a pity that all her potions in her dimension could work wonder but she couldn’t pull them out in exchange for money and now she had to re-learn all these primitive medicine-making methods. Aye… such great talents she possesses but nowhere to apply them!

TWQQF ch 323 - Bribing The Family; Grilled By The Parents (8)

“You guys….” Cheng Xiao Xiao’s face was frowning. She finally took a deep breath and put on a smile before she asked her younger sister, “Little Lan Lan, what are you doing here?”

After she said that, she turned and stared at her two brothers. They sold her out over some swordsman choreography! Those two traitors!

Under their sister’s intense stare, the two brothers smiled and stood to one side. They didn’t want to be yelled at.

“What are you still doing here? What business do you still have at my house?”

TWQQF ch 322 - Bribing The Family; Grilled By The Parents (7)

Truth be told, the 9th Elder felt like he was stuck between a rock and a hard place. He didn’t know how he should interact with Cheng Biyuan.

If Mo Xuanzun hadn’t shown up, he could appeal to him with the family and make promises of adding the back into the family genealogy; he didn’t think Cheng Biyuan would object to that. After that he would be able to just stay behind and complete his mission assigned to him by the Housemaster and the First Elder.

After what had taken place today, he had a feeling that it might not be easy to complete his mission from the Housemaster and the First Elder. And if he just return now, he wouldn’t be able to answer to them, so he just sat there and watch the others took off one by one.

Resplendent Apothecary ch 89 - The Once-A-Year Herb Market (1)

“Did you do that?” asked the sage apothecary, while completely immersed in studying the Compendium of Materia Medica, the priced treasure that any apothecary could only dream of. He wasn’t intentionally trying to take advantage of his disciple. It was his disciple who told him that he’d need to understand the entire Compendium of Materia Medica inside and out before he’d be able to teach her more herbal knowledge and apothecary techniques. Granted, he’d freely admit that his disciple was much better than him in many areas, but she also lacks a lot of basic knowledge.

While he was studying this treasure of a book, the old sage apothecary felt that his level of apothecary technique has improved significantly and he had gained an indescribable amount from reading it!

Gu Ye, on the other hand, had been focusing on preparing calamus. In order to prepare calamus, one must first scrape off it’s outer thick cover with a copper knife before steaming it with its leaves, sun dried, picking out its branches, and grinding them up. Hearing her master’s inquiry, she said without looking up, “Do what? To what is Master referring to?”

“Fine! Keep faking it!” The sage apothecary’s attention was caught by the usually green calamus in her hands. He was very curious how she was able to get her hands on fresh calamus in this season.

He had come to realize that his disciple has a lot of secrets, but he had no intention of asking, or to tell any one else. Part of the reasons was out of respect for his disciple, but also that he had been warned by the Hall Master of the Hall of Hidden Soul to watch what he says, or he’d make sure that he could never talk again!

The Yama1 had a cold face and a cold heart to go with that. He wouldn’t make any exceptions just because he was the famous sage apothecary, so the sage apothecary wasn’t going to chance it with his own life either.

Gu Ye placed the scraped calamus into the pot for steaming and added some firewood to the stove before she turned to the sage apothecary and giggled, a little pride sparkled in her eyes, “Hehe, that’s the punishment from heaven for badmouthing others. It has nothing to do with me. They shouldn’t have badmouthed Master. They deserved it!”

“Oh you!” The sage apothecary was even more sure that she has something to do with it. He was very moved by her defending him, but he still need to warn her with utmost seriousness, “Even though poisons come to us easily, but it is against the will of heaven. You must be careful when to use them!”

He knew that his precious disciple had a bad childhood and didn’t want her to become an extreme and vicious poisonous doctor, so he tried his best to talk her out of it.

Gu Ye giggled and said, “Don’t worry, Master! The drugs merely brought out the poison that was already in their bodies. It may seem awful but they are actually good for them. You know as poisons accumulate in one’s body, it’s a matter of time when one will get sick.”

“It really has no negative impact on the body?” The sage apothecary was still feeling dubious about it.

Gu Ye rolled her little eyes, “Of course it’s true. Truer than gold, okay! Master, we are running low of herbs at home. I am going to go into the mountain and take a look tomorrow.”

“You be careful.” The sage apothecary couldn’t help but to remind her, “This Mount Cangmang is located on the northern part, you will have to have your grandfather buy you the herbs that only grow in the southern region from town.”

A little embarrassed, Gu Ye rubbed her nose. Perhaps she was being too careless. Ever since she brought home a basket of fresh panax notoginseng, her master has been looking at her like she was a monster. Aiya, she had forgotten that one could not get panax notoginseng from the northern region! Luckily, her master was pretty cool. As much as he was full of suspicions, he never asked about them. Eh, it was quite handy to have a master like him around.

“I just don’t know if my grandpa has enough money to support my activities.” Buying raw ingredients could be very costly.

“Ouch! Master, why did you smack me?” Gu Yu, rubbing her head, looked at her master as though she had been wronged.

TWQQF ch 321 - Bribing The Family; Grilled By The Parents (6)

The appearance of the immortal crane along with little Lan Lan’s giggling immediately caught a the attention of all the Cheng’s family members. Quite a few of them looked up and quietly and discussed the appearance of this “guye” of the Cheng’s in a lowered voice!

The ones in the living room discussing worldly affairs were also interrupted by all the ruckus from the outside, yet they didn’t need to go outside in order  to know what was going on.

“Immortal crane? He has a immortal crane as his ride? It’d appear that this young master Mo was of quite a respectable status at the Temple of Divine Plans!” said the old dean with a smile.

Everybody in the world knew that only the temple master of Temple of Divine Plans could have a immortal crane as his ride and nobody else. The appearance of the immortal crane at the Cheng’s had made the status of the visitor quite clear.

Resplendent Apothecary ch 88 - Rumors Stop At Apothecaries (3)

Third Uncle Gu was Third Grandpa’s oldest son, the third in the clan, and was the only one in the clan who studied in the town. Unfortunately, his was the most talented. After dozens of years of studying, he never passed the examination to become an official. Discouraged, he returned to the village to become a teacher. Even though he was a teacher, he merely had just a handful of students. Every household in the village was barely able to feed themselves, nobody had the extra money for pay for their kids to go to school.

Gu Ye shook her head right away and said, “I have only been studying for a few days and can only recognize a few words. I don’t come close to Third Uncle Gu. I must go back home; otherwise Master will scold me for being lazy and meandering outside again.”

Gu Ye must pass through Dr. Wu’s house on her way home from Hunter Zhang’s. She could see Mrs. Wu from a distance talking about something passionately.
